Chairperson: Phyllis Leslie 570-836-6548
Rules:
- Department 11 has been set up to encourage youth other than 4-H and FFA to show projects. Age should be under 19 as of January 1st of the current year. All projects are collected through the auspices of a school setting, and are entered only by teachers. (Others; see Division 3 or Department 19 of other areas.)
- Entries from public, private, parochial, or home schools must be brought to the Wyoming County Fair Schoolhouse building on the date and times stated below.
- Work must be original, not traced or copied in any manner.
- Each teacher may enter only two exhibits from one grade in each class number as listed. Note: Section means the grade. Class is the type of entry. Nursery, pre-school, and kindergarten teachers may enter two exhibits from each session taught. Example: AM and PM sessions taught by the same teacher could mean four actual entries in each class listed. No more than 75 entries per teacher will be accepted.
- ART TEACHERS: May enter one exhibit from each class taught per grade level. If he/she teaches five second grade classes, he/she may enter a total of five exhibits under each class for second grade. He/She may enter as many classes as desired or applicable. No more than 75 entries per teacher will be accepted.
- SUBJECT AREA TEACHERS: With more than one class per grade may submit exhibits equal to two times the number of classes taught. Example: an English teacher instructing five classes of fifth grade may submit up to ten entries in any one class. He/She may enter as many classes as desired or applicable. No more than 75 entries per teacher will be accepted.
- SIZE & WEIGHT: Maximum size of any exhibit is: 24 inches x 24 inches x 24 inches; Mural may be 30 inches in one direction only; Maximum weight of any complete entry is eight (8) pounds; matting is limited to one inch. Suggestion: All single sheet entries (handwriting, poems, art work) should be matted on oak tag-type paper (one-inch border) to facilitate display. Also book covers which are laminated hold up better. Be sure exhibit is sturdy to withstand handling and dampness. Smaller exhibits are preferred because of space and handling.
- RESTRICTIONS: NO live plants or animals, liquids, or food stuffs, please. This means beans, rice, pasta shapes, marshmallows, corn, etc.
- LABEL: All exhibits, or parts of, must be labeled with: student’s full name, grade, teacher’s name, school, school district, and county (if other than Wyoming). This information goes on the back of exhibit. Hint: Duplicate the basic form and fill in student’s information as needed. Securely staple or tape this information label to each exhibit and its parts.
- ENTRY TAGS: Use a black marker pen, please. Student’s full name, school, and teacher’s name must be PRINTED on front of each entry tag. Tie or staple entry tag to upper left corner of each exhibit. Note if there are additional parts to the exhibit (1 of 3, for example). DO NOT use paper clips or tape to attach entry tags. These do not hold well. Do fold over the lower portion of tag to hide student’s name.
- CATEGORIES: There are A,B,C designations for some classes. This letter must appear on the tag. Individual means one person did the work. Small Group means two or more class members worked on the exhibit. Class means the greater part of the class contributed to the exhibit; Class does not mean it was given as a class assignment.
- TEACHER ENTRY FORM: ALL teachers submitting exhibits for students must complete one form per grade. You may copy more as needed, or use plain paper, to list additional exhibits from the same teacher. Try to list exhibits in numerical order. Staple all sheets from one teacher together. Art Teachers: One form per grade per school, please. These forms are used for awarding prizes, so accurate completion of the sheets is most important.
- ALL TEACHER ENTRY FORMS must be delivered to the Chairperson, or designee, when the exhibits are delivered to the collection point. Please keep TEACHER ENTRY FORMS out of boxes for exhibits.
- DELIVERY and RETURN: Teachers entering projects will be responsible for delivery of projects to the SCHOOLHOUSE at the Fairgrounds and return of the projects from the SCHOOLHOUSE at the Fairgrounds. This can be arranged by school building. Chairperson must have names of those responsible. To facilitate return of exhibits: It would help if each teacher’s class exhibits were in boxes labeled with his/her name, grade, and school. All exhibits are to be delivered to the WYOMING COUNTY COMMUNITY FAIRGROUNDS by school representatives. The exhibits will be stored there until Fair time.
