4-H Sheep Entry Form
Premiums:       $12      $11      $10      $9        $8
Note:  To qualify to show at 4-H Round Up, all 4-H market animal eartag numbers must be on file at the Extension Office by June 1st of this year.  All 4-H breeding animal ear tag numbers and/or tattoos must be on file at the Extension Office by July 1st.  All breeding animals must be registered by July 1st in the 4-Her’s name only.  No reference to farm name or joint ownership will be permitted.

Health Requirements:
  1. Individual official animal identification is required for all sheep.  Official ID includes:
    1. A USDA ear tag with a US shield; which includes scrapie program tags (animals bearing identification with blue colored scrapie program tags labelled “meat” with a US shield are not permitted to be exhibited in PA-please call the Department at 717-783-6851 if such tag is encountered); or
    2. A legible tattoo with herd and individual identification recognized in an approved USDA Scrapie database a.k.a. a scrapie tattoo (flock ID in the right ear--state postal code and letters/numbers--and individual animal ID in the left ear); or
    3. A breed registration tattoo if the animals are accompanied by a registration certificate (copy acceptable) and the tattoo is legible.
    4. Identification used for sheep must be permanently affixed to the individual animal
  2. For post-exhibition sales the following requirements apply:
    1. Market sheep must be documented on sales slips which contain the following information.  Slips must follow the sheep to their final destination (including slaughter facilities).
      1. Official identification (as described above)
      2. Sale date
      3. Sale location
      4. Name, address and phone number of the exhibitor
      5. Hauler contact information
      6. Destination name and contact information
      7. Total number of animals in the shipment
      8. Type of sheep (i.e. meat, wool, specific breed)
      9. Signature of consignee, agent, or hauler
    2. Sheep which are purchased with the intent of breeding and are traveling via interstate movement must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (ICVI) prior to movement to the destination state.
    3. A copy of the sale records slips and a copy of any ICVIs (in 2 above) must be kept for 5 years.
  3. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued after May 1st of the current year.
  4. All animals must be free of evidence of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this should be written on the CVI.
  5. A current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is highly recommended for animals 3 months of age and older.  Market animals consigned for immediate slaughter are exempt.
  6. Purebred animals must be identified by registry name and number, corresponding to the ear tag or tattoo number.  Grade animals can be identified by farm-flock number, corresponding to the ear tag or tattoo number.
  7. Any animal of unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition, or which cannot be satisfactorily handled under show conditions must be removed from the Fairgrounds.
Other Rules & Regulations:
  1. All members must follow the rules of the Wyoming County 4-H Livestock Handbook.
  2. Exhibitors are required to show one of their 4-H project animals in a Master Exhibitor class in order to show in market or breeding classes.
  3. Animals must be presented in the show ring to qualify for ribbons and premiums.
  4. For an animal to receive 4-H ribbons & premiums, they must be exhibited by the owner, unless there is a medical excuse from a doctor.  The animal may then be shown by another Wyoming County 4-H member.  (No Master Exhibitor award will be given.)
  5. Animals competing in the same class can be part of only one group.
  6. In group classes, a 4-H member may have assistance from another Wyoming County 4-H member.
  7. Sheep will arrive on the Fairgrounds between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM the Tuesday before the Fair.  Pens will be assigned.
  8. Market lambs must be presented for weigh-in upon arrival to the Fairgrounds.
  9. Premiums:  A minimum of six (6) animals per breed/section entered will qualify for 100% of the listed premiums.  Less than 6 animals per breed/section will be 50% of listed premiums.
4-H Market Lambs:
  1. Can be a wether (must be healed) or a ewe.
  2. Weigh-In Procedure:  All market animals will be weighed on the same set of scales under the direct supervision of the Penn State Extension Educator.  All animals must fall within designated ranges as set in this book.  In the event an animal is over or under weight they are permitted to step off the scales and immediately be reweighed on additional time. 
  3. Each 4-H market lamb exhibitor is allowed to sell two (2) 4-H market lambs.   
  4. All animals that Banner must be sold.
  5. In order to sell a 4-H market lamb at the Fair, it must weigh a minimum of 80 lbs.
  6. Market lambs will be placed in classes as determined by the department chairs, after all market lambs have been weighed.
  7. No premiums will be paid for Homebred classes.
  8. All lambs will be mouthed and must have a full set of lamb teeth.
4-H Master Exhibitor – Ages are 4-H age as of January 1st of the current year.
  1. Each animal exhibited in a Master Exhibitor class must be carded and clipped/sheered with one inch or less of wool.
4-H Breeding Sheep:
  1. Breeders Young Flock consists of one ram lamb and two ewe lambs, all bred and owned by the exhibitor.
  2. Lambs shown in breeding classes cannot be shown in market lamb classes and market lambs may not be shown in breeding classes.
  3. Each exhibitor is limited to two (2) entries per class for any one breed.
