4-H Beef Entry Form

Beef Cattle – To qualify to show at 4-H Round Up, all market steers must be tagged and registered with the Extension Office by December 1st of the previous year.  4-H breeding beef animal ear tag number and/or tattoos must be on file at the Extension Office by July 1st.  Breeding beef project animals must be owned and in the possession of the exhibitor by July 1st.  Registered animals must be registered in the 4-Her's name only by July 1st.  No reference to farm name or joint ownership will be permitted.  A project designation form for all registered or crossbreed (non-registered/non-papered) 4-H breeding beef animals and a copy of the animal's registration papers (if registered) must be on file in the Extension Office by July 1st.  Baby beef project animals must have a designation card completed and turned into the Extension Office by July 1st.  
 
Health Requirements:
  1. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued after May 1st of the current year.
  2. All animals must be free of evidence infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this should be written on the CVI.
  3. Cattle shall be identified by an official ear tag or other unique identification device approved by PDA.  Official identification includes:
    1. A USDA-issued National Uniform Eartagging System (NUES) ear tag having a US shield; or
    2. A 15-digit Animal Identification Number (AIN) ear tag starting with "840" and having a US shield; or
    3. Other identification approved by the PDA.  (Brands and breed registrations with tattoos are not acceptable).
  4. A current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is highly recommended for animals 3 months of age and older (observe appropriate slaughter withdraw time).
  5. Any animal of unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition, or which cannot be satisfactorily handled under show conditions must be removed from the Fairgrounds.
Other Rules & Regulations:
  1. 4-H members must follow the rules in the Wyoming County 4-H Livestock Handbook.
  2. Exhibitors are required to show one of their 4-H project animals in a Master Exhibitor class in order to show in market or breeding classes.
  3. Animals must be presented in the show ring to qualify for ribbons and premiums.
  4. For an animal to receive 4-H ribbons & premiums, they must be exhibited by the owner, unless there is a medical excuse from a doctor.  The animal may then be shown by another Wyoming County 4-H member.  (No Master Exhibitor award will be given.)
  5. Premiums:  A minimum of six (6) animals per breed/section entered will qualify for 100% of the listed premiums.  Less than 6 animals per breed/section will be 50% of listed premiums.
  6. Beef will arrive at the Fairgrounds the TUESDAY before the Fair between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
  7. Market steers must be presented for weigh-in upon arrival to the Fairgrounds.
  8. NO bulls will be allowed on the Fairgrounds.
  9. All beef animals must be dehorned.
  10. When Junior members are showing, the 4-H Livestock Clubs should have people available for assistance.
4-H Market Steers:
  1. Weigh-In Procedure:  All market animals will be weighed on the same set of scales under the direct supervision of the Penn State Extension Educator.  All animals must fall within designated ranges as set in this book.  In the event an animal is over or under weight they are permitted to step off the scales and immediately be reweighed on additional time.
  2. Each 4-H market steer exhibitor is allowed to exhibit two (2) 4-H market steers but may only sell one (1). 
  3. All animals that banner must be sold.
  4. In order to sell a 4-H Market Steer at the Fair, it must weigh a minimum of 1000 lbs.
  5. Market steers will be placed in classes as determined by the department chairs, after all market steers have been weighed.
  6. There will be no dairy beef crosses.
  7. No premiums will be paid for Homebred classes.

  1. Junior Heifer Calves – born after January 1st
  2. Senior Heifer Calves – born September 1st to December 31st of prior year
  3. Summer Yearling Heifer – born May 1st to August 31st of prior year
  4. Junior Yearling Heifer – born January 1st to April 30th of prior year
  5. Senior Yearling Heifer – born September 1st to December 31st of 2 years prior
  6. Two Year Old Heifer – born January 1st to August 31st of 2 years prior
  7. Cow/Calf – calves at side must be either a heifer or steer, calf must be born after January1st of current year.

SECTION 22 – 4-H BEEF MASTER EXHIBITOR
​Showmanship skills will be recognized by designating "Master Exhibitor" in each class.  Exhibitors who demonstrate extraordinary skills in fitting and showing their animals will be selected by the judge.  
Class:
13. Master Exhibitor – Beginner ages 8-11          14. Master Exhibitor – Junior ages 12-14                  15. Master Exhibitor – Senior ages 15-18

Awards:
            First and second place awarded to each class.
