Health Requirements:
- No swine species shall be exhibited in PA unless each animal is in compliance with all of the following:
- Is accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued within 30 days of the Fair.
- Is permanently identified by an official 840 series RFID ear tag and the ear tag number is recorded on the CVI.
- Has been visually inspected and found to be free of signs of contagious disease immediately prior to unloading at the exhibition by an accredited veterinarian or swine health monitor appointed by the Fair Board or Livestock Show Committee.
- The swine shall be in compliance with the Department’s regulations regarding health requirements and intrastate transportation of swine found at 7 Pa.Code §§ 3.172-3.180.
- The swine shall comply with the Department’s general quarantine orders; “General Quarantine Order; Swine Exhibition Requirements” [51 Pa.B 3861, Saturday, July 17, 2021], “Addendum to the General Quarantine Order; Swine Exhibition Requirements” [52 Pa.B. 2362, April 23, 2022] and “Interstate/International and General Quarantine Order; Importation and Intrastate Movement of Swine” [39 Pa.B. 5442, September 19, 2009].
- Any animal of unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition, or which cannot be satisfactorily handled under show conditions must be removed from the Fairgrounds.
- All male animals must be castrated and healed at the time of tagging.
- Market hogs must be under one year of age upon arrival at the Fair.
- All members must follow the rules of the Wyoming County 4-H Livestock Handbook.
- Exhibitors are required to show one of their 4-H project animals in a Master Exhibitor class in order to show in market classes.
- Animals must be presented in the show ring to qualify for ribbons and premiums.
- For an animal to receive 4-H ribbons and premiums they must be exhibited by the owner unless there is a medical excuse from a doctor. The animal may then be shown by another Wyoming County 4-H member. (No Master Exhibitor award will be given.)
- Hogs will arrive on the Fairgrounds between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM the Tuesday before the Fair and will be weighed-in upon arrival to the Fairgrounds.
- Weigh-In Procedure: All market animals will be weighed on the same set of scales under the direct supervision of the Penn State Extension Educator. All animals must fall within designated ranges as set in this book. In the event an animal is over or under weight they are permitted to step off the scales and immediately be reweighed one additional time.
- Market hogs will be placed in classes as determined by the department chairs, and after all market hogs have been weighed.
- Each 4-H market hog exhibitor is allowed to show and sell two (2) 4-H market hogs.
- All animals that banner must be sold.
- No premiums will be paid for Homebred classes.
- Members may tag up to three hogs; however may only show two (2) at the 4-H Round Up.
- For the 4-H Round Up and Sale the minimum weight is 230 pounds and the maximum weight is 295 pounds. The weight of each animal will be announced at weigh-in.
- During Fair week, feeding times will be 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM each day.
- Premiums: A minimum of six (6) animals per breed/section entered will qualify for 100% of the listed premiums. Less than 6 animals per breed/section will be 50% of listed premiums.
- Each animal exhibited in a Master Exhibitor class must be clean and neatly clipped.
