Kiwanis Wyoming County Fair (KWCF) Demolition Derby Rules

MID SIZE CAR

The Demolition Derby is designed as an unusual spectator attraction. Every entrant is subject to the following rules and regulations in the interest of safety and equal competition. KWCF does not imply or guarantee safety. Total responsibility for inspection of car and rule compliance is by the owner \ driver, not KWCF.

SAFETY AND CAR SPECIFICATIONS; Items undetected, unobserved and escaping detection during inspection do not become legal. Any exception to the rules will be called illegal.

PIT AREA; a maximum speed limit of 5 MPH MUST be obeyed at all times in the pit area, parking lot and driveway. (equal to a fast walk pace.) IF NOT OBEYED, THIS WILL LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION.

CAR; American made 1974 thru 1979 mid size cars only, 1980 and newer all models. If you have questions on cars that qualify call Lloyd McCain - 570-309-4606

HOOD; Cars must have stock hood with a hole cut over the carburetor and be tied down after inspection with wire. Do not use chain!

FANS; All belt driven stock fan blades are to be removed, you may use an electric fan with plastic or nylon blades only.

ANTIFREEZE; Must be removed and can be replaced with water. If not removed car will be disqualified.

BRAKES; Must be in working order for safety purposes on the track. (DRIVERS RESPONSIBILITY)

GAS TANKS; Stock tanks are to be removed from the car. a marine style or equivalent fuel cell , five gallon maximum shall be installed in the rear passenger compartment, fastened down securely and covered with a fire shield openable for inspection. All electric fuel pumps require a separate power switch within drivers reach. Switch must be labeled fuel pump shutoff. Homemade fuel cells must be: 1.sturdy 2.securely mounted 3.entirely leak proof or you cannot run.

Fuel lines must be metal passing through the firewall and in the passenger compartment extending past the drivers seat and be covered inside of the vehicle. Short length of fuel hose connecting tank to line is okay.

BATTERIES; are to be mounted solidly to car floor in the front passenger compartment with a rubber or plastic shield covering.

TIRES AND WHEELS; tires are limited to automobile and light truck nothing heavier than a load range D, (8 ply rating). No industrial or farm tires allowed! No foam filling, or loading of tires is allowed. Remove all wheel weights. No lock ring style rims and no valve stem protectors may be welded on.

BODY & INTERIOR; All glass, chrome trim, locks and anything else that might become imbedded in the track must be removed. TOTALLY CLEAN IT OUT INCLUDING GLASS. Anything inside the car that is a fire hazard must be removed, including car interior, trunk pad, and carpet. Drivers door panel should be left in for safety of the driver. Projecting latches, handles, etc. inside drivers door must be removed. Remove brittle metal & fiberglass pieces front and back. A flash guard of some type MUST be installed covering the car firewall where large holes are produced after taking heaters and etc. out. Use light tin or some type of nonflammable material.

WINDSHIELD; is to be removed, you must cover with a wire screen securely fastened. You must install at least two safety straps from the body area behind the hood to the roof of the car to keep the hood from coming backwards through the windshield area.

BUMPERS; use stock bumpers, maximum height 20 inches from the ground to the bottom of the bumper. Bumper may be welded to stock mount brackets and shock brackets welded to prevent collapse and brackets welded to frame. Cars without bumper must have NO projecting mounts or frame projections. Bumperetts must be removed.

SPRINGS; No coil to leaf spring conversions allowed.

NO REINFORCEMENT will be allowed except as stated. Trailer hitches are to be removed.

DOORS; must be welded and/or tied securely with cable or chain. Only exterior door seams may be welded. You are allowed to use flat steel over the seams up to 3/16th thickness and 3" wide. If the drivers door comes open car is disqualified.

TRUNK; lids are not to be welded or bolted down, use wire or chain after inspection is complete to keep closed.

Etc. you are allowed to change position of the shifting lever and are allowed to use stacks.

Any situation that arises KWCF have the power to add or change rules as required.

DRIVERS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE AND HAVE PROOF OF AGE.

ALL DRIVERS MUST SUPPLY THEIR OWN CARS. Entries limited to one (1) car per driver per night.

NO HORSEPLAY IN PIT AREA. THIS MAY LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION AND LEGAL ACTION. DRIVE SENSIBLY AND PAY ATTENTION.

SAFETY BELTS, HELMETS, AND EYE PROTECTION ARE REQUIRED.

DOORS MUST BE PAINTED WHITE.

All cars must be removed from the grounds by the owner no later than 10:00 AM the day following the derby!! This is your responsibility, so make arrangements before the derby! After 10:00 AM all cars left become the property of a salvage hauler designated by the Kiwanis Club.

Drivers must maneuver forward and backward. NO deliberate ramming of the driver's door is allowed.

A time limit will be set by the judges. If a driver does not hit a live car within the time limit, this can lead to disqualification. DO NO PLAY POSSUM AND NO TEAMING UP.

Additional safety regulations may be imposed depending on the track. Rules subject to change to fit the even. The decisions of the KWCF and the judges are final.

 

Truck Body Regulations:

1. All rules listed above that apply to trucks will be enforced.

2. Three quarter (¾), one half (½). and one quarter (¼) ton trucks, vans, suburbans, blazers, broncos will be accepted. Two (2)

or four (4) wheel drive models. On four (4) wheel drives, NO front drive shaft allowed AT ALL-- NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!

NO MINI VANS!!! NO DUAL WHEEL TRUCKS!!!!

3. Battery must be relocated to the front floorboard and securely fastened and covered. Maximum of two batteries.

4. Bed may be re-bolted with threaded rod no bigger than ¾ inch and washers up to, but no bigger than 8” X 8”. Rubber

mounts may be removed. Factory bed floor only. Wood floors must have factory metal strips. NO steel replacement floors.

5. The back of the cab may be welded to the bed. No other reinforcing will be allowed.

6. Stock gas tanks must be removed and replaced. A marine tank is recommended. Tank must be mounted in front center of

the bed and securely bolted in place. All tanks must have secure caps and must be covered with a splash shield. All lines and

fittings must be leak proof and meet approval of officials. Fuel lines may be metal or rubber.

7. All frames must remain in OEM stock outside no weld zones. Don’t add cable, wire or chain tensioning in or outside of

frames. Any driver caught with an altered frame at check in will not be allowed to enter that truck.

8. Frame must remain stock. Absolutely no fillers inside or added reinforcement outside frame. Repairs must be made to a

broken or rusted and must meet approval of officials. Don no use camouflage materials on frame.

9. No LIFTED trucks with lift kits. USE YOUR HEAD.

10. HEIGHT OF 4 X 4 TRUCK WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE OFFICIALS!!!!!!!!!!!!

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, REAR END REGULATIONS:

11. All trucks must have working brakes.

12. Only gasoline and diesel fuels are allowed

TIRES:

13. Implement, bar, and light truck tires are permitted

13, No split rims. Doubled tires are allowed.

14. All wheels and rims must be stock. No welding or reinforcing allowed.

NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON THE FAIRGROUNDS! THIS WILL LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION.
